United Services by Permaco continues to help promote literacy among children with Bernie's Book Bank Donation

United Services by Permaco, Inc. headquartered in Lake Bluff, IL, has announced that it will continue its support of Bernie’s Book Bank, a Chicagoland non-profit that’s mission is to “Connect Children Needing Books with Books Needing Children”. 

United Services has been committed to an annual financial donation to support the efforts at Bernie’s Book Bank in addition to working in conjunction with the Bernie’s Book Bank staff to help bring awareness to the high numbers of children in the Chicagoland suburbs that don’t have access to books.  And this year is no exception!  

Bernie’s Book Bank is the logistical bridge between where books are today and are no longer being used, to where they are not and are desperately needed.  Bernie’s Book Bank Distribution Partners are schools and organizations that serve large populations of at-risk children.

 “Reading is the single most important skill a child needs to learn. Yet studies show that 61% of low-income families don’t have any books at all in their homes for their children.  Bernie’s Book Bank aims to change that statistic by pouring quality children’s books into “at-risk” homes, ensuring that children have access to books from birth, and arrive to school “reading ready,” said Brian Floriani, Founder and Director of Bernie’s Book Bank.

Bernie’s Book Bank is changing that trajectory today for more than 95,000 children in Chicago and its suburbs. Each child the bank serves receives a minimum of 12 books per year from Bernie’s Book Bank.  The books are theirs to keep at home forever.  BBB has distributed more than 3.2 MILLION books since December 2009!
